Sustainable life safety and security through smarter innovation

At TIS, we have a unique opportunity to drive sustainability in the life safety and security industry - not just through our own ESG initiatives, but by helping our customers operate more efficiently and sustainably. By developing system designs and utilising solutions that are more sustainable, we make a real and lasting impact while differentiating our brand with customers and suppliers. Our environmental strategy aligns innovation with sustainability, ensuring our solutions benefit both people and the planet.

Embracing sustainable practices isn’t just about environmental responsibility - it also brings significant economic advantages. By integrating solutions that optimise operations, bring energy efficiencies and reduce waste, our customers can lower their operational costs, enhance efficiency, and improve regulatory compliance. Additionally, future-proofed, modular solutions provide long-term value, reducing the need for costly replacements and upgrades.

Key areas of impact

  • Driving customer efficiency and sustainability: We’re using our deep understanding of our customers’ operations to offer expert advice on how technology can drive efficiency, improve sustainability, and enhance compliance
  • Energy efficiency: We’re using our expertise to design and develop life safety and security systems that offer choice and balance around factors such as cost, performance, energy efficiency, waste reduction, and greener materials
  • Circular design: We’re sharing knowledge and offering modular, future-proofed systems that can lower waste, costs and promote long-term usability
  • Client partnerships for net zero: By collaborating with clients, we’re aiming to be a trusted partner in helping them to meet their ESG goals

Direct operations

Our approach to sustainability starts at home by focusing on our own direct operations.

  • Fleet operations: We are committed to managing our fleet operations sustainably as part of our broader environmental goals. By optimising vehicle routes and leveraging data-driven scheduling, we reduce fuel consumption and emissions during daily operations. Additionally, we are actively transitioning our fleet to electric vehicles (EVs), investing in EV infrastructure to support this evolution. This gradual shift allows us to lower our carbon footprint while maintaining operational efficiency. By adopting cleaner technologies and promoting sustainable fleet practices, we’re driving toward a future of zero-emission transport that aligns with our commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability.
  • Recycling and waste reduction: By implementing robust waste management policies and working with partners to enhance recycling processes, we ensure that materials such as packaging, obsolete equipment, and office waste are diverted from landfills wherever possible. We also prioritise using sustainable materials in our operations and encourage a circular approach by refurbishing and repurposing equipment to extend its lifecycle.
  • Sustainable energy management: We are committed to managing our energy usage responsibly to reduce our environmental impact. A key part of this commitment is the implementation of renewable energy solutions, such as installing solar panels on the roof of our headquarters. These panels provide a sustainable source of power, significantly reducing our reliance on non-renewable energy. Alongside this, we continuously monitor and optimise energy consumption across our operations, implementing energy-efficient technologies and practices wherever possible.

Value chain

  • Environmental management system (EMS): We developed our own EMS which uses ISO 14001:2015 as a framework, allowing us to document and improve our environmental practices to better satisfy the needs and expectations of our customers and stakeholders.
  • Decarbonising our supply chain: We collaborate with suppliers who share our commitment to sustainability, prioritising low-carbon materials, and adopting energy-efficient technologies throughout the design, installation, and maintenance lifecycle of our systems. By integrating sustainability criteria into procurement decisions and encouraging transparency, we ensure our partners adhere to high environmental standards. Additionally, we continuously evaluate our supply chain practices to identify opportunities for further emission reductions, enabling us to deliver innovative, sustainable solutions that align with our clients' ESG goals and support global efforts to combat climate change.
  • Reducing transport emissions: By incorporating remote monitoring and diagnostics capabilities into our solutions, we can address potential issues without the need for on-site visits. Additionally, our pre-planned maintenance schedules minimise unnecessary travel by ensuring efficient and streamlined operations. This smarter approach not only enhances system reliability but also supports our environmental goals by reducing fuel consumption, lowering emissions, and contributing to a greener, more sustainable future.
  • Sustainable product and service solutions: Intelligent design and the use of technology can help with achieving net zero. We use sustainable materials such as fibre cabling and always consider the environmental impact of the products we use e.g. energy consumption, life expectancy, recyclability, their ability to be networked so we can dial-in to fix issues rather than physically send an engineer.
